Things that make me nostalgic for Istanbul:
- Caí staff in every business ( post office, bank, nail salon, etc) delivering tea & coffee
- Framed photos of Ataturk in every shop- sometimes 2 or more
- Ferry rides between two continents with the wind in your hair and the lights of Istanbul all around
- Menemen- deliciousness that is not the same outside of Turkey
- Street cats & dogs (I had to jump over a giant sleeping dog to leave Starbucks)
- Shopping at Tchibo- the best pajamas!
- Taksi rides- I have had both friendly drivers who want me to practice my Turkish and drivers who shout at everyone and drive like maniacs
- Long meals- no rush to finish but a value in long conversation and hours spent around a table
