A Walk Down Memory Lane

Things that make me nostalgic for Istanbul:

  • Caí staff in every business ( post office, bank, nail salon, etc) delivering tea & coffee
  • Framed photos of Ataturk in every shop- sometimes 2 or more
  • Ferry rides between two continents with the wind in your hair and the lights of Istanbul all around
  • Menemen- deliciousness that is not the same outside of Turkey
  • Street cats & dogs (I had to jump over a giant sleeping dog to leave Starbucks)
  • Shopping at Tchibo- the best pajamas!
  • Taksi rides- I have had both friendly drivers who want me to practice my Turkish and drivers who shout at everyone and drive like maniacs
  • Long meals- no rush to finish but a value in long conversation and hours spent around a table
