Lake Ohrid

My first trip to Lake Ohrid was was wonderful from the moment the driver picked me up on Friday afternoon.

I invited another teacher to join me, and the 2 1/2 hour car ride was a great chance to get to know her and enjoy endless views of green hills and mountains. Our driver was able to talk about some of the villages we passed (there is a whole section of the drive where the villages fly Albanian flags).

We had a great pasta dinner right on the lake after we arrived. Our villa (Amfora) in the Old City for the weekend was beautifully restored outside but had great modern updates inside.

St. John’s

Saturday started with breakfast at a cafe then off on an adventure to see the sights. We walked the boardwalk all along the lake past several beautiful churches then ALL the way up to the fortress and amphitheater.

We had a long lunch in a sidewalk cafe enjoying people watching and delicious food. We walked around the Main Street eating ice cream before splitting up to enjoy an afternoon of reading.

Sunday was a short day of enjoying lake side breakfast, walking along the boardwalk, and stopping to read on quiet benches. We headed back to Skopje after lunch at the same cafe from Saturday. I can’t wait to go back again!!
